Tourguide in the country of lakes and volcanoes

Visiting Léon one has a variety of interesting activities to choose from. Those include the famous volcano boarding, short hikes or even multi-day trips. Project N_H.04 offers these. Volunteers working with the project are trained as guides in cooperation with local guides and after a short time they lead their own groups.
Through this the project aims to generate financial means to support different social projects in the area. It finances scholarships for disadvantaged children from a poorer background, thus giving them a chance to go to school or even university and keeping them away from the streets. Within this scholarship programme the development of a tutoring programme between elder and younger beneficiaries is being planned. Additionally, the projects profits finance day-care centres for street youth as well as (school) books for tutoring and reading projects. Volunteers can engage themselves in any of those projects additionally to their tour guide activity.

Leisure activities with the children and teens from León
Another project which we visited this month and which we really want to present to you is the project N_H.07. What makes this project so special? You will work with children and teens in a funny, competent and open-minded team. Furthermore, you will live in one of the most beautiful cities in Nicaragua directly by the pacific.
Overall there are two groups to look after in this project. The older kids come in the morning and the younger ones in the afternoon. The children and teens are often from disadvantaged families. Because of this your daily tasks include, beside your helping with the homework, and advice on everyday issues. Furthermore, the day programme includes after school activities, which means a lot of fun and action. The large sport field offers a lot of space to romp. There are no limits to your creativity!

If we have aroused your interest and you would like to come to León send us your request! We look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome and Goodbye

This month we have been able to welcome four additional volunteers here in Nicaragua.
Theresa takes care of boys with a socially precarious background in project N_F.34 here in Granada. We are very happy about the support of Cathrin and Sebastian in project N_N.05 on the island Ometepe. They look after children from poor families and study or play with them. We warmly welcome Christoph in project N_L.10 in Matagalpa. For three months, he will work with the mentally ill and their families. He will support them in dealing with the illness.

But after welcoming our new volunteers we must say goodbye to those leaving us. In project N_F.32 at the Laguna de Apoyo Christine actively supported the team. For the last two months, she was an enrichment to the lives of the children she looked after. We want say thank you to you all for your commitment and wish you all the best!

Goodbye to our volunteer coordinator 2016/2017

It is difficult for us to say goodbye to Katrin. She enriched the Proyecto Mosaico concept with her ideas and implemented it with full effort since September 2016. She handled all the administration tasks in the office, coordinated everything between a lot of projects in five countries of Central America and the volunteers of various countries and furthermore represented Proyecto Mosaico at events like the world water day, the Berrinche Ambiental or the school package donation, which is twice a year in Pantanal.

We want to say thank you to you Katrin! We had a wonderful time with you and are really happy to get to know you! Wish you all the best for your Master-Thesis and the next chapter of life.

Proyecto Mosaico is welcoming Franzi
There is a lot going on in our office recently. After Gina took Katrin´s place as volunteer coordinator, Franzi arrived as volunteer coordination assistant. She already got to know the country and people in the last few weeks. Franzi will support the Team in Granada until December. We are welcoming Franzi warmly in the Proyecto Mosaico team and wish her a really great time for her stay in Nicaragua.
Nicaragua Travel Video | by WANDR (Surfing, Volcano Boarding, Monkeys, and MORE…)
With this video we want to give you an impression about the beauty of Nicaragua. Come and see the country of lakes and volcanoes!
Do you know…OMETEPE?

While crossing the Lake Nicaragua towards Ometepe, the island is already taking your breath away. Two impressing volcanoes stand proudly in the middle of the lake, usually wrapped up in a thin layer of clouds.  Black volcanic beaches invite you to walk a bit or go for a swim. But there is so much more to discover on Ometepe, the world’s biggest volcanic island in a lake. In the “Charco Verde” reserve it is possible to see butterflies, birds and monkeys. The hike through the tropical dry forest ends with an amazing view from the Punta el Piscacho. At the Ojo de Agua it is possible to enjoy clear, fresh water from underground springs in a relaxed atmosphere.
Sarah and Theresa are on Instagram and Facebook!

There are periodical publications from Sarah on Instagram and from Theresa on Facebook since September. They tell you about their experiences as Proyecto Mosaico volunteer in Nicaragua. Besides of the impressions of their project you also get information about the possible leisure activities and the lifestyle here. Thank you, Sarah and Theresa for your commitment. We look forward to your further Posts!
